World travel fair opens in Shanghai
THE four-day Shanghai World Travel Fair opened at the Shanghai Exhibition Center today, offering visitors a glimpse into the culture, history, landscape and people across the world.
The annual travel carnival in Shanghai attracted exhibitors from 52 countries and regions who brought diversified performances, handicraft displays, virtual reality experiences and delicacies from around the world to the scene.
Natives of Saipan greeted visitors with traditional authentic Chamorro and Carolinian dance performances at Marianas exhibition area. The traditional dances were originally intended to rally warriors into battle and have become the signature cultural performance of Marianas.
"We want to showcase the culture and beauty of Marianas by introducing an abundance of cultural activities to the fair and we decorate the scene with tropical resort atmosphere," said Judy C. Torres, deputy director of Marianas Visitors Authority.
Kintetsu Railway in Japan introduces its Kintetsu rail pass to the fair. The pass has four discounted tickets from one day to five days, allowing unlimited rides on Kintetsu Line to travel in Japan's Kansai region, which includes some of the most charming destinations like Nara, Kyoto and Osaka.
There is free Wi-Fi at 29 stations of Kintetsu which are the most frequently visited by foreign tourists, the railway operator said.
Characters in the Star Wars appeared at the Tunisia exhibition stand to interact with visitors because the famous serial movies were partially filmed in southern Tunisia. The African country displays its Mediterranean beaches and archaeological remains at the fair.
It has a visa-free policy for Chinese passport holders since February with a maximum stay of 90 days.
The Shanghai Spring Tour brought 50 performances and events such as Tujia ethnic minority dances, French wine tasting and unmanned aerial vehicle shows to the fair. It offered about 300 tour packages for the fair.
During the four-day event, two forums on the trends of China’s tourism market will be held.
