X Games athlete injured
AN Australian professional motorcyclist fell off his bike and received multiple injuries yesterday when performing during the KIA X Games Asia 2009 at Jiangwan Sports Center in Yangpu District.
Josh Sheehan, 23, was sent to Changhai Hospital and was diagnosed with a dislocated left shoulder and bruised lungs. A doctor said he would be kept in hospital for observation.
The accident occurred at 1:20pm on an X-Games motorcycle show called "MotoX Shootout." Sheehan was trying to perform a full twist in the air while separated from his motorcycle. His timing was off and he lost control of the motorbike.
Organizers did not comment about the accident.
Sheehan is regarded as one of the most talented freestyle motocross riders in Australia.
His achievements include a second place at the 2007 WA Supercross Championship, third place at the 2007 Narrogin FMX Nats and fifth place at the 2007 Moto Mayhem Calder. He also secured a spot on the FMX tour to Indonesia for 2 months in 2007 and finished fourth at the Australian Super X 2008.
As the X GAMES moves into its 11th year, more than 200 athletes from the Asia-Pacific region competed for prize money and medals in five categories.
