Xuhui wants the next Xintiandi
YONGKANGLI, a traditional neighborhood in downtown Xuhui District, wants to become another entertainment center such as Xintiandi.
More than 50 stores have opened in the lane in the first phase of the project, which was unveiled yesterday at the junction of Xiangyang Road S., Jiashan Road and Yongjia Road, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.
The development is part of the city's preparation for the upcoming World Expo to be held from May to October next year.
Planning has been completed for the second and third phases, which will open after the World Expo ends next October.
The second phase will be themed on old-Shanghai style lanes called longtang, featuring luxury hotels, galleries, private museums and creative industries as well as cafes and restaurants, according to the report.
