Yao Ming races Liu Xiang's dad for award

SHANGHAI basketball star Yao Ming and the father of Olympic hurdle champion Liu Xiang are among 30 candidates for the Top 10 New Good Men to be awarded by the city.

Candidates are those who lead a healthy lifestyle, are loyal and devoted to their families and society, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.

Others in the final 30 include actors and sports stars as well as government workers, doctors and businessmen.

They were selected by thousands of local citizens since the contest was launched last month by media members of Xinmin United Press Group, the report said.
