Campus dating pattern
Nearly 20 percent of university students in China date for sex, a survey showed yesterday. The other reasons for campus love are the need for spiritual support, or yearning for someone to study together.
Only 3.5 percent said they dated with the intentions of marrying, the matchmaking website jiayuan.com, which conducted the survey, said.
The survey quizzed 1,467 university students nationwide. About 17.8 percent said they dated for sex.
“University students don’t have a clear mind on marriage, and their pursuit of love is often an expression of desire,” said Zhang Jiarui, a love consultant.
Nearly 40 percent said they would end the relationship after graduation, while 8.6 percent said they just dated for fun.
Zhang said high rate of “breaking up” is a feature of campus love. “Some break up due to big difference in characters; some end their relationship because they feel they are not cared for; some give up because of lack of excitement, but the main reason is that many students don’t have a strong feeling of responsibility,” Zhang said.
