Chance for local kids to hear top writers’ read

CHILDREN’S writers will read from their work to local kids at the China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair on Friday evening.

Readings by Chinese and overseas writers take place at the Changning District Library on 356 Tianshan Road, between 7pm and 9pm.

Places are available for around 150 people.

Those taking part include Marita Conlon-McKenna from Ireland, best-known for “Under the Hawthorn Tree,” Shanghai author Qin Wenjun and writers from Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Local and expat children can apply by sending their name and cellphone number to the library’s microblog account at weibo.com/u/2776203432.

The book fair opens to the public on Saturday from 10am to 6pm at ShanghaiMart.

Among famous foreign children’s writers and illustrators appearing at the event are Nobel Prize winner Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio.

Tickets are 20 yuan (US$3.3), and include free admission for two children under 1.4 meters.
