City signs deal with PLA for university

SHANGHAI'S municipal government has signed an agreement with the General Logistics Department of the People's Liberation Army to collaborate for the future development of the Second Military Medical University.

Shanghai will include the university in its integrated planning and development project of universities and colleges in the city and put three hospitals affiliated to the military medical school under the new university's health plan.

The university will enjoy preferential policies and financial aide from the municipal government, as do other members of China's top 100 universities in the city.

Witnessed by Yu Zhensheng, Shanghai Party secretary, General Liao Xilong, director of the General Logistics Department, and Chen Zhu, health minister, Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng signed the agreement with Sun Dafa, commissar of the department yesterday.

The cooperation between Shanghai and the General Logistics Department carries out President Hu Jintao's strategy to put defense construction together with economic and social development.
