SHANGHAI will spend more on education this semester, the school authorities announced. The expenditure per primary school student will rise to 1,600 yuan (US$242) from the previous 1,400 yuan, and expenditure per middle school student will rise to 1,800 yuan from the previous 1,600 yuan. The city will also build 40 kindergartens and five middle schools.
