English school closure leaves students in lurch
AN English training center closed suddenly, leaving dozens of students in the lurch and parents out of pocket, Shanghai Television news reported yesterday.
Tuitions owned by the training center are estimated at several hundred thousand yuan. The E-Cambridge International English Education Center in Songjiang District had claimed to have hired a number of foreign teachers, including former professors from the University of Cambridge. After the school closed last month, staff promised refunds, but later phone calls went unanswered, a parent surnamed Wu told the STV news program. According to registration information on the website of the city’s market watchdog, the center was not registered to be engaged in educational training. Its registered address was found to be an abandoned factory in Songjiang.
