Firms set rules for paying ayi
TWO local companies have issued pay guidance for families employing home-stay ayi.
The Jialilai Household Service Co said an ayi should earn 200 yuan (US$29.3) to 400 yuan a month for housekeeping, depending on the apartment and its location, and 1,200 yuan for taking care of a child above the age of three.
The cleaning fee should rise if the family has pets, the company said.
Another company, the Sunny Baby Nursing Center, said its ayi should earn 150 yuan a month for reading stories to a baby, and 150 yuan for giving them physical exercise twice a day.
"If clients have special requirements of an ayi, such as educational background and language skills, they will pay more," said Xia Jun, director of Jialilai.
Xia said families can choose the services they need, while ayi can choose if they wish to carry out extra duties to earn more. Xia said ayi had the right to refuse work not in their contract.
