Fudan students to have chance to expand ‘global outlook’

Fudan University will give its undergraduate students the chance to study abroad by 2020 to expand their “global outlook,” Zhu Zhiwen, the party chief of the university said yesterday.

Students who participate will have the option of going abroad for several months, half a year, or one year.

Zhu said students will gain valuable life experiences and self-confidence that will help when job hunting after graduation.

“Local university graduates should have a multi-cultural background and the ability to communicate and compete with their overseas counterparts,” Zhu said.

The university will cover tuition for some students while they will be required to cover their living expenses, he said. Students from less-privileged families may qualify for additional financial aid.

Fudan will also cooperate with foreign universities on exchange programs to help reduce the costs for students, he added.
