Fudan tests applicants for plagiarism

FUDAN University has begun using anti-plagiarism software in its independent student enrollment for the first time.

The software has been applied to detect plagiarism in students' graduation papers to deter rampant academic copying on campus.

Fudan University said that it had not found large-scale plagiarism in a nationwide writing competition, in which students can be pre-admitted by the school with an essay.

But they installed the measures to improve the school's enrollment process, faced with an 80-percent increase in the number of participants this year.

With the reform of the national college entrance system, colleges have been granted much more freedom to choose students than before.
