Kids called bad names by teacher in web posts

SHANGHAI Education Commission said yesterday that a young primary school teacher has "severely violated teachers' ethics" after she was found to be calling her students "bastards" online.

The 27-year-old teacher surnamed Yuan used offensive names like bastard, idiot and bitch for her students in a primary school in Qingpu District, a Weibo user tweeted on Thursday. The commission ordered Qingpu authorities to investigate.

Yuan, facing criticism, closed her Weibo account. She then opened a new one and offered an apology: "I am so sorry for my inappropriate language. It's wrong to call students like that. I will draw a lesson from this. Please forgive me," she wrote.

She said she didn't intend the words to be mean. She just felt they were cute nicknames. "I had three classes in a row today and felt relieved seeing Christmas gifts offered by these little bastards," she wrote on Weibo.

Schoolmaster Zhou Xiufang said Yuan uses her own money to buy students gifts. "But it is inappropriate to use these nicknames online," Zhou added.
