Local Children's Dream Jobs Are Helping Others

DOCTORS, teachers and policemen are dream jobs among local children, which are very different to foreign counterparts' choices, according to a survey released yesterday.

Children's Daily asked local primary school students what their dream is and received 1,637 replies. About 40 percent responded with an occupation. Doctors, teachers and policemen were the most popular choices, while becoming scientists, cartoonists, writers and astronauts also appealed to students.

In an earlier survey of 1,807 South Korean primary school students, 76 percent said that they wanted to become movie stars. British children born after 2000 had similar dreams - very different from their parents who had wanted to be doctors and teachers.

Shanghai children said that they want to become doctors to help others in the wake of SARS, the earthquake in Sichuan and the Japan tsunami.
