Native English teachers boost education in Pudong


STUDENTS in Pudong have taken more than 60,000 lessons from native English-speaking teachers in the past three years under a 12.55-million-yuan (US$1.85 million) project, Xinmin Evening News reported today.

Pudong government has sent the teachers to 60 primary and middle schools, including those attended by the children of migrant workers, the report said.

About 36,000 students have benefited from the scheme, the report said.

The latest survey of Pudong students showed that 78 percent are more interested in English after attending lessons given by foreign teachers. About 49 percent said they learned more from foreign teachers.
