Pay raise guideline
THE government recommended that the average company give a 12 percent pay raise to its staff this year, Shanghai Human Resources and Social Security Bureau announced yesterday. The city's human resources watchdog usually releases the guideline for pay raises during the early months of the year based on overall economic growth trends. The bureau said the guideline is not mandatory for local employers but said workers could use it as a major yardstick released by the government to negotiate salary and benefits with their companies.
