Programs to help students find work

SHANGHAI launched a series of programs yesterday to promote employment and startups among university students.
These included a job fair held at Shanghai University yesterday for students to look for internships. Sixty-three companies, including Citibank and General Motors, offered 240 internships and attracted about 3,000 applicants.
Lu Yuanshen, an economic management major at Shanghai University, also went to the fair though he is a freshman.
“The internships enable me to connect what I have learned to real careers and also help me to develop a better understanding about the industries,” he said.
The government also launched its first youth career training camp yesterday. It will provide training on interview technique, creative thinking, business affairs and other skills for 1,000 students at Shanghai University each year.
Shanghai Human Resources and Social Security Bureau said it would set up about 20 such camps in the city to serve more students. It also invited 30 entrepreneurs and experts to be voluntary mentors for student startups at the university.
