Pupils to undergo safety exercises
FROM next year, city students' morning-exercise routes will coincide with emergency-exit thoroughfares.
Officials from the Shanghai Education Commission revealed the initiative to a traffic safety education conference in the city yesterday.
"Only regular training and education can be effective in saving students' lives during emergencies like fires and earthquakes," said Yang Yongming, director of the commission's youth-protection department.
"Knowledge about traffic safety will be highlighted next year, as courses strengthen students' understanding of traffic signs and rules."
Six districts will promote a campaign against hidden traffic risks this year.
Under the Photovoice program, students and families take pictures of hidden risks like improperly installed traffic lights and authorities will act on their recommendations.
