Reading alliance to recommend book list for students

A reading alliance was established for local students over the weekend at the 14th Shanghai Education Expo as promoting reading is part of theme of the annual event this year, which ran from Friday to Sunday last week.
The alliance will invite famous writers and experts to recommend book list for students all over the city every year.
“The number of children’s books published in China has been increasing year by year, with a 26 percent growth in 2016 from the previous year, suggesting that printed books are still indispensable in children’s life,” Wang Zhong, president of Zhejiang Juvenile and Children’s Publishing House, said at a forum about reading at the expo.
“There are more and more channels for children to get information,” said famous Chinese writer Ye Yonglie. “If we assimilate knowledge to a house, books are the bearing walls.”
Wu Rongjin, principal of the Luwan No.1 Central Primary School, pointed out that scientific big data can better serve reading, though digital screens cannot replace printed books.
The school developed an online library in 2014 with an intelligent lending system. After inputting the name of wanted books, students can find them on shelves by following the 3D navigation gap. Parents can also scan the QR codes of books at bookstores to see whether the school’s library has already had them. They system can also monitor students’ reading behaviors so that teachers can provide guidance and assistance according to related analysis results.
