The Chongming County Education Bureau said it will include national holidays and weekends for holiday schools for left-behind children on the island. Launched in 2009, the holiday school program covered all the villages and neighborhood committees on the island with teachers and volunteers taking care of the children during summer and winter holidays. Every Tuesday, children aged between six and 16, attend handcraft classes, go to field trips or play games while their parents are away at work.
