Security checks for all city schools
EVERY entrance at city schools, including international schools, should be equipped with at least two professional security guards during the day during the new semester.
The education authorities will carry out spot checks on guards and security facilities in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, following a local school safety regulation which takes effect this term after a rash of attacks on pupils and teachers across the country earlier this year.
International schools will be included in the checks, Shanghai Education Commission officials said yesterday.
Yang Yongming, a commission official, said the checks would begin in Qingpu District on September 15, because many schools there had poor security in previous checks.
In addition, all school buses will have to be equipped with emergency hammers and fire extinguishers.
