Shanghai raises work injury compensation
LOCAL employees who were injured at work will be able to receive more compensation and assistance for their rehabilitation after a new regulation on work injuries takes effect next month.
Employees injured in a traffic accident on their way to work or home and not bearing the main responsiblity for the accident will also be eligible for job-related injury compensation, the Shanghai Human Resources and Social Security Bureau said today.
Shanghai's compensation for workers who died on the job will be raised to 350,000 yuan (US$52,850), the same standard across the country, from the current amount of about 178,000 yuan. Compenstation for those disabled by work-related accidents will also be increased.
Under the new regulation, the city will carry out the trial of a rehabilitation program for those injured at work in some designated hospitals and health centers starting from January 1, 2011. All their expenses will be covered by the work injury fund if their employers have bought the insurances.
By the end of November, 9.55 million people have joined the city's work injury insurance program. Among them, 4.71 million are migrant workers.
