Student deported

AN overseas student from Central Asia who opened a restaurant without a work permit was fined and will be deported, the Shanghai Exit-Entry Administration Bureau said yesterday.

The 19-year-old, studying at a local university, rented a house near his school and started a restaurant without applying for a work permit. The student often skipped class to take care of his business and was caught during a regular check. Police reminded overseas students in China that they need a work permit to seek employment.
