Student slapped by teacher
A MIDDLE school student was slapped on the face by his teacher for saying a class punishment given to pupils was unreasonable.
The school is still investigating the incident, officials said yesterday. The 35-year-old class teacher, surnamed Ni, may be fined, they added.
When the Grade 7 student surnamed Wang at Datuanzhen Junior High School in the Pudong New Area returned home last Friday, his mother, surnamed Chen, noticed that his right cheek was swollen.
According to Wang, Ni said the class would have to transcribe a text if anyone failed an English test. Wang questioned this and was slapped in front of classmates.
Chen called the school immediately, demanding an investigation. She said the boy was left traumatized.
School officials said Ni had admitted slapping the boy and had apologized to Wang and his parents.
