UK minister to visit Shanghai to find out secrets behind maths success
An expert delegation led by British Education Minister Elizabeth Truss will arrive in Shanghai on Monday to learn the city's experience in teaching, maths in particular, the Shanghai Education Commission said this morning.
Truss and the delegation will visit the education commission and Shanghai Normal University on Monday afternoon. They will visit three public schools in Shanghai, including a primary school, a middle school and a high school on Tuesday, according to the commission.
Shanghai is the first stop of this trip which aims to raise the teaching standards at British schools, as the city ranked first in a global student assessment evaluation announced last December.
Shanghai students topped the 2012 international PISA tests for maths while England was ranked in 26th place.
The three schools the delegation plans to visit are Shanghai Fushan Foreign Language Primary School, Shanghai Jianping West Middle School and Shanghai High School. The delegation will leave Shanghai for Wuhan in Hubei Province on Wednesday.
