Uni warns of fake program
EAST China Normal University is warning students to be wary of an educational institute which recruits students in the name of one of its sub-colleges.
The university stated it bears no connection with the Beijing-based recruiter claiming to promote a program under the university's School of Continuing Education.
"It is a phony piece of information," said the university in an announcement. "It badly hurt our reputation and legal rights and interests."
The university said it plans to take legal action.
"We will authorize our lawyers to address the legal obligations of anyone who stole or helped steal our name," said Jiang Bingbing, an official of the school.
The university condemned a Website, www.bjzhaosheng.com, which stated that the School of Continuing Education of ECNU had started an international course of study and dual-degree program for high school graduates. It was supposedly connected to the University of Nottingham and the University of Western Australia.
When a Shanghai Daily reporter tried to contact the institution, a staff member surnamed Li picked up the phone.
"I knew nothing about the institution and the relationship between it and East China Normal University," Li said.
Li said the Website provided the platform for the institution last year to do recruiting.
