Art festivals establish on West Bund to develop new landmark
A batch of art festivals on music, food and design have been established in the West Bund area along the Huangpu River to turn the riverfront into a new art and fashion landmark of the city, officials said today.
The major art activities include the West Bund Music Festival, the biennial exhibition on architecture and contemporary art as well as the art and design exposition, according to the state-owned West Bund Group, which is in charge of development in the area.
The annual Zebra Music Festival, for instance, was held over the weekend at the riverside area. Famous pop singers including Yoga Lin, Coco Lee and popular local girls’ band SNH48 have performed during the two-day festival.
“The comfortable outdoor environment along the Huangpu River is quite suitable for such music festival,” said Lin from Taiwan Island.
To involve more art elements, the organizer has included a stage performance named Bird of Paradise for the first time since the music festival was initially launched in 2012, an official with the group said. Artists also taught Ukulele and Salsa dancing on the scene. These teaching events will become regular for the future music festivals, she said.
A new food festival will be held in the area during the 7-day National Day holiday starting from Saturday, when seven Michelin chefs from Italy and France will cook for visitors, according to the group.
