Arts fest draws big audiences
SOME operas performed in cooperation with foreign artists nearly completely sold out during the 14th China Shanghai International Arts Festival, which closed yesterday evening.
The 33-day-long festival featured many well-known local, national and international performers, as well as a performance trade conference, a project to support youth artists and forums.
There were 46 performances staged at the arts festival, half from local groups and half from international troupes and artists.
Performances such as the classic opera "La Boheme," Yang Liping's ethnic dance drama "Peacock," and the classic ballet "La Traviata" attracted about 150,000 fans, selling out.
"We will focus more on innovative works and attract more overseas artists and groups to engage in the event next year," said Liu Guowen, arts director of the festival.
