'Burn the Floor' to heat up Shanghai Grand Theater

"BURN the Floor," a Latin and Ballroom dance performance, will return to Shanghai this fall, Shanghai Morning Post reported today.

It will be performed at Shanghai Grand Theater from September 18 to October 7.

"Burn the Floor" will tour 10 cities and give 18 shows on its China tour.

The show is a fusion of different dances covering 300 years.

"Burn the Floor" founder and producer Harley Medcalf told the newspaper that the dancers on the China tour are the most beautiful and enthusiastic of the various troupes.

The dancers come from countries such as Australia, Britain, the United States, Canada and Russia. They have won more than 130 awards, the report cited Medcalf as saying.

Since its debut in Australia in 1999, "Burn the Floor" has toured the world and was in Shanghai last year.

Also in September, Shanghai born dancer Tan Yuanyuan will lead the San Francisco Ballet into town for a performance of "Swan Lake."

Tan will perform as the cursed Odette-Odile, the Swan Queen, from September 22 to 25 in Shanghai Grand Theater.

Tan Yuanyuan joined the San Francisco Ballet in 1995 and is now a principal dancer.
