FORMER British Prime Minister Tony Blair's wife Cherie and renowned Japanese writer Watanabe Junichi will attend the annual Shanghai Book Fair, which runs from August 13 to 19.

Under the banner "I love reading, I love life," the fair will present more than 100,000 books - 60,000 new texts - from 470 publishers at the Shanghai Exhibition Center, the Shanghai Press and Publication Bureau said yesterday.

There are also 300 cultural activities scheduled, including the appearance of Blair and Watanabe.

Wu Jianmin, the former ambassador to France and former chairman of the Bureau of International Expositions, will share his World Expo experiences while presenting his book "My Fate with Expo."

And Lu Ping, the former director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council, will present his book "Lu Ping's Dictation about the Return of Hong Kong."

The book fair will run from 10am to 6pm each day and until 10pm on August 14-15.

For the first time, the organizers will extend the fair to outside its physical location, with new books exhibited at the fair to be found in big bookstores. The fair will also extend to two online bookstores - www.001town.com and www.99read.com.
