China Box-Office Boom
BOX-OFFICE revenue on Chinese mainland will likely reach 30 billion yuan (US$4.4 billion) to 35 billion yuan within 10 years, Han Sanping, chairmain of China Film Group Corp, told a Shanghai International Film Festival forum yesterday.
Han said China's film industry will continue to boom due to its production power and huge potential market.
Box-office revenue in large cities such as Shanghai and Beijing will continue to grow about 20 percent per year. Second-tier cities and small counties also have strong growth potential, he said.
Cinemas earned 4.3 billion yuan at the box office last year, a 30.5 percent increase from 2007. It was the first time China entered the top 10 in global box-office receipts.
