City date for Sydney orchestra
THE Sydney Symphony Orchestra will visit Shanghai for a performance next month for the first time since it was established in 1932.
The orchestra impressed the world with the "Tin Symphony" at the opening ceremony of Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
It will be led by famous conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy and feature pianist Bezhod Abduraimov, the Shanghai Evening Post reported today.
Grand Prize winner at the London International Piano Competition in 2009, Abduraimov was born in Tashkent in 1990 and began to play the piano at the age of five.
The concert will be held at 7:30pm on October 20 at Shanghai Oriental Art Center's Concert Hall on 272 Fengxian Road.
Tickets range from 100 yuan (US$14.7) to 680 yuan.
