City seeking innovative designs of 'Shanghai memory' souvenirs

THE city's annual tourism souvenir competition was launched by the Shanghai Tourism Administration today, and expats are also invited to participate.

The theme of this year's competition is "Shanghai memory," and participants are encouraged to submit innovative designs that reveal the stories behind the city's landscape, culture, customs, history and people.

The competition will select several best designers, who will improve their works based on the instruction of professors from Tongji University and Donghua University. Outstanding designs will be made into a new line of souvenirs that best represent the city.

A number of winning designs in the past competitions including pendants shaped in Waibaidu Bridge and a coloring book featuring famous scenic spots in the city have hit the market.

The deadline of submission is July 28.

The results will be announced during the Shanghai Tourism Festival and organizers can be contacted via zike.ji@visualchina.com. The top winner will receive 20,000 yuan (US$3,225).
