City tours to Bangkok canceled
SHANGHAI tourism authorities have canceled all Thailand-bound group travel because of the state of emergency in Bangkok.
Tour agencies are now refunding travelers who had booked trips this week, and all Shanghai tourists in Thailand are safe and accounted for, tourism authorities said today.
Shanghai CYTS Tours and Shanghai Airline International Travel Service Co Ltd said about 140 tourists were affected by the cancellations.
Protests were confined to downtown Bangkok so tourists to other areas such as Chiang Mai and Phuket Island were able to continue their vacation as usual, travel agencies said.
Agents said frequent anti-government protests had dampened confidence in Thailand as a tourist destination.
They are now offering packages to other southeast Asian countries.
