"MUSIC in Summer Air," the city's first outdoor festival of classical music, will begin tomorrow and run through August 22. It will see the debut of Shanghai Student Symphony Orchestra.
The festival is jointly organized by Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and the Shanghai Education Commission.
A 1,500-square-meter tent has bee erected at the intersection of Fenyang Road and Huaihai Road M., where about 20 internationally acclaimed artists will perform, including Sumi Jo, Shen Yang, Wei Song, Liao Changyong, Yang Jie, Li Yundi and Kirill Gerstein.
Students from 29 local schools and universities will also give a concert on August 21. They form the 100-member Shanghai Student Symphony Orchestra and will participate in international events.
The student orchestra will recruit new members every summer. Foreign students attending local schools are eligible to join the orchestra.
