Construction work done on 1st Disney structure
MAJOR structural work on the first building of the Shanghai Disney Resort, which will house the resort’s retail, dining and entertainment area was completed yesterday.
Concrete was poured into the last section of the roof structure of the building near the central lake of the resort in the Pudong New Area that is scheduled to open to the public by the end of 2015.
“The building will host a variety of dining and entertainment options for guests while offering stunning views of both the lake and Shanghai Disneyland’s Enchanted Storybook Castle,” an official with the resort said.
The retail, dining and entertainment area will initially be comprised of a 46,000-square-meter pedestrian-access area and will be located next to Shanghai Disneyland, Shanghai Disney Resort’s Magic Kingdom-style park.
The area will offer guests unique opportunities to enjoy Chinese and international dining, shop for special Shanghai Disney Resort souvenirs and see world-class entertainment.
“With something for everyone, this festive venue will be a “must-visit” for anyone living in or traveling to Shanghai,” the official added.
Covering 3.9 square kilometers, the resort will blend classic Disney storytelling and characters with new attractions, and experiences tailored specifically for the people of China.
Two theme hotels, recreational facilities and a lake, plus parking and transport hubs, will also be included in the development taking shape in the Pudong New Area.
It will be the first Disney resort on China’s mainland. The project is a joint venture between Walt Disney Co and Shanghai Shendi Group.
