Creek cruises ready for the water

SUZHOU Creek cruises will start service on Wednesday, opening views on both sides of the river to boat passengers, local authorities said yesterday.

The 14-kilometer route runs from Danba Road Dock to Moganshan Road Dock, in Putuo District, winding its way under 12 bridges and passing historical buildings and innovation parks.

"The upcoming five-day May Day holiday can be a great time for tourists to give the cruise a try," said Liang Liqun, in charge of the cruises.

"Passengers will feel safer and drier this time because all cargo ships will be ordered off the route when the cruise service starts," noted Liang.

In trial runs last September, many passengers complained about jolts and soakings from the splash of passing boats.

The cruise service will make two round trips every day. Night cruises are planned for the summer, after a riverbank lighting project is completed, said Liang.

Single trips will cost 50 yuan (US$7.30) per person. Round trips, 80 yuan.
