THE 2016 Great Tone of China, a piano and violin competition for musicians from Chinese mainland and Taiwan, concluded on Saturday with an awarding ceremony and a concert by winners held at the He Luting Concert Hall of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
More than 2,000 competitors participated in preliminary sessions of the event, the third of its kind organized by Taiwan businessmen in Shanghai, Taipei, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Harbin and about 60 in different groups won the prizes in the final.
Wang Yue, the communication department director of the Taiwan Affairs Office in Shanghai, said the competition had offered a bridge for musicians and players from across the Strait to communicate with music and establish friendship and he wished it could continue in the future and cultivate more musical talent on both sides.
Organizers said that in 2017, the competition will kick off in February and was planned to be organized in 12 cities in Chinese mainland and Taiwan. The number of competitors is expected to be tripled.
Winners of previous competitions will also be invited to play in concert in different cities to have cross-Strait exchanges with players and even famous musicians.
