Cultural events planned to celebrate country's Cultural Heritage Day

A series of cultural events will be held in the following days to celebrate China's National Cultural Heritage Day, which falls on June 11.

Tomorrow the international forum on the protection of intangible cultural heritage will be held at Shanghai Art and Design Academy.

Experts and scholars from Europe, Japan and South Korea will gather in the city to share their expertise and experience in the preservation and revival of intangible cultural heritage.

Through June 10, lectures, film screening and art exhibition will be hosted to chronicle the history of the city's famous shikumen (stone-gated) residence Chang Garden which was built in the late 19th century.

Shikumen, first appeared in the 1860s, is the city's symbolic architectural style that combines Western and Chinese elements.

The building art of Shikumen has also been honored as part of the country's intangible cultural heritage.

This year's celebration will also include exhibition and creative bazaar of traditional handicrafts of China, and nationwide paper-cutting contest.

A new batch of the city's intangible cultural heritage will also be announced.
