Fan Bingbing proves she's not just a pretty face

MAINLAND actress Fan Bingbing doesn't want to be regarded as just a pretty face in television shows and movies.

The actress's studio and production company has been in operation for two years and, following the TV drama series "Rouge Snow," Fan and her team are now working on a TV version of "The Last Night of Madam Chin."

Fan is in town for the filming of the drama which also stars Hong Kong star Anthony Wong and Taiwan heartthrob Vic Chou.

Based on Taiwan writer Pai Hsien-yung's masterpiece of the same name, the story centering on the city's dancing queen Madam Chin's romances from the 1940s to the 1960s was previously adapted as a stage play starring Liu Xiaoqing.

The TV version is expected to be one of the most expensive domestic period dramas to date.

"The sets include a luxurious stage and dance hall with a unique 1940s flavor," Fan said.

"The character with complex personality and delicate emotional changes is also a challenge to my acting."

The drama is due to screen later this year.

Fan's next plan is probably a biopic drama about Wu Zetian, China's only empress who lived during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD).
