Film fest nominates 16 for Golden Goblet

ORGANIZERS of the 13th Shanghai International Film Festival yesterday announced nominees for the festival's "Jin Jue" (Golden Goblet) Award and Asian New Talent Award.

This year a record 2,327 feature films from 81 countries and regions were submitted for this year's Golden Goblet consideration. Many of these entries demonstrated high artistry and distinctive styles, officials said in Beijing.

Officials picked 16 films to compete for the Golden Goblet, including Italian director Gabriele Muccino's "Kiss Me Again," Canadian film maker Leo Pool's "The Last Escape," Japanese director Masaru Shimomura's "Partners" and two Chinese productions - "Deep In the Clouds" by Liu Jie and "Ocean Heaven" by Xue Xiaolu.

The seven-member jury panel will be chaired by famed Hollywood-based Chinese director John Woo, whose works include "Face/Off" and "Red Cliff."
