Film festival tie-ups boost industry
IT was a busy day at the 19th Shanghai International Film Festival.
Coinciding with screenings of films such as “The Elk” and “The Valley of Love,” some important industry announcements were made yesterday.
Two Sino-UK films will be going into production soon, thanks to a new strategic cooperation deal between SMG Pictures and ZhongZe China-UK Film Fund.
And Veteran British actor and independent producer Craig Conway announced that he will start shooting a film in China by the end of the year.
On the distribution front, outstanding Chinese television and film productions will reach international audiences through Britain’s video-sharing website Distrify in the near future.
Finally, SMG Pictures and the Shanghai Writers’ Association established a “Pioneer” incubation foundation yesterday to cultivate talented young writers and filmmakers. Local filmmaking students can apply for funding to make a 10-minute short film, and aspiring young scriptwriters will have the opportunity to work with celebrated directors.
