Frenzied box office braces for 'Pirates'
ROB Marshall's highly anticipated "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," the fourth of the fantasy-adventure film series, starring Johnny Depp, will be screened in Chinese cinemas today at the same time as its United States premiere.
Wu Hehu, deputy chief of Shanghai United Cinema Circuit, the city's largest cinema chain, said he expects the film to be the most popular Hollywood film on the Chinese mainland so far this year.
"With a large number of 'Pirate' fans in China, the film is likely to stop the slide of the local film market over the past few months," Wu said.
Both 3D and 2D versions of the film will be screened in local theaters. Some cinemas with IMAX screens will also offer an IMAX 3D version.
Since last Friday, Stellar Cinema City has sold more than 200 tickets for the special IMAX 3D premiere screening today at 12am.
