'Got Talent' franchise hits Chinese TV

THE star-making British talent show "Britain's Got Talent" is coming to Shanghai.

City-based Dragon TV bought the format of the hit reality competition series from Fremantle Media yesterday to launch an authorized Chinese version, "China's Got Talent."

After first-round elimination around the country, the show's weekly final elimination rounds will be aired from June 26 to August 28 on Dragon TV, officials said.

Dragon TV previously has run similar talent shows in China, such as "My Hero" and "My Angel."

The "China's Got Talent" champion can receive a performing contract with Fremantle Media and Sony Music Entertainment. He or she also has the chance to perform at Las Vegas for three months and be invited on Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai's world tour concert as a guest performer.

On September 19, the finalists of "China's Got Talent," as well as the winners of the "Got Talent" series in Britain, the United States and Europe will together present a glamorous show at the Expo Culture Center.

"It is the first time our star-making show will be strictly based on the TV format of a prestigious foreign show," said director Jin Lei.

"This time there is no age or background limit for contestants. Everyone can turn their stardom dream into reality on this stage."

Though there was a dispute about the setting of the judges between Dragon TV and Fremantle Media, the two parties finally reached a consensus. "China's Got Talent" will retain the three-person jury panel of the original British version and will not change its members during the run.

The judges will be chosen based on online votes. The candidates include mainland actor Ge You, Taiwanese TV host Jacky Wu and singer/actress Sylvia Chang.

The registration hotline for the show is 400-820-2732. For more details, check daren2010.dragontv.cn
