Have a helping of Danish design with a side of royalty

FOR those who like a little Danish creative design and lifestyle shopping with their European royalty, the Royal Danish Consulate General in Shanghai is hosting a “Danish Design Days” exhibit through April 30 in Jing’an District.

The exhibition opened today at Design Republic’s Design Commune, an old police station from the early 20th century at 511 Jiangning Lu.

Where the royalty comes in is that Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II and her consort Prince Henrik of Denmark will be dropping by in the next few days as part of their state visit.

Jewelry, clothing, furniture, toys and other products from 16 Danish companies are on display at the exhibition, reflecting the diversified nature of the European country’s designers.

Her Majesty will visit the exhibition and officially open a pop-up shop at the Design Commune on Monday, the consulate said.

The royals landed in China for a five-day state visit yesterday. They will arrive in Shanghai on Sunday and leave China on Monday. Design Republic is a retail concept store based in Shanghai that “offers a unique collection of products created by the world’s best design talents, many of which have never before been made available to consumers in China,” according to the website of the creators of the store, designers Lyndon Neri and Rosanna Hu.
