High-tech kiosks make book fair debut
A NEW, high-tech style newspaper kiosk went on show to the public for the first time yesterday at this year’s Shanghai Book Fair.
The design is fitted with LED screens, which people can use to digitally subscribe to their favorite newspapers and magazines, its manufacturer said.
Several of the kiosks, which are made from black, tempered glass, are expected to go on trial around the city before the end of the year, it said.
The annual book fair opened yesterday at the Shanghai Exhibition Center and runs through Tuesday.
As well as offering visitors the chance to review all the latest titles from around the world, the show also includes special events, such as book signings and readings, several of which are held away from the main base.
At the Super Brand Mall near Lujiazui Metro station yesterday, fans of the novels on the literature website China Reading got the chance to meet their favorite authors.
According to a recent survey by the Shanghai Press and Publishing Bureau, 31 percent of respondents say they prefer reading on screens over printed material, up from 28 percent a year earlier.
