Japanese filmmaker brings romance
CELEBRATED Japanese filmmaker Shunji Iwai is to collaborate with Chinese directors on romantic movies, after being appointed chief producer of the Love Film Studio in the Pudong New Area yesterday.
The studio, set up by SMG Pictures, aims to make Chinese movies or co-productions telling love stories.
Iwai is best-known for his movies "Love Letter," "Swallowtail Butterfly" and "All about Lily Chou Chou."
Over the next two years, he will provide guidance and technical support for an upcoming romance movie trilogy.
Studio officials said they are also considering launching a training program for local young filmmakers.
