Jump in complaints over SE Asian tours

Tour packages to Southeast Asian countries and cities in Zhejiang Province drew the most complaints from local travelers  last year, most of them about disputes over skipped itinerary, abrupt change of schedule, quality of accommodation and service of tour guides, the city’s tourism authorities said yesterday.

The number of complaints of tour packages to foreign countries and Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan jumped 15 percent from a year earlier, the Shanghai Tourism Administration said. It said it received 311 complaints for overseas tours through the year, involving 1,637 people, compared with 130 complaints for domestic tours, which was down 36 percent from 2012.

More than one third of complaints were related to tours to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

There were complaints also for tours to Europe, Japan and South Korea.

Domestic trips to Zhejiang, Yunnan and Three Gorges drew the most complaints from travelers, the agency said.
