Juries for Asian New Talent Award meets media

The juries for the Asian New Talent Award held a meeting with media today during the ongoing 2016 Shanghai International Film and TV Festival.

Launched in 2004, the award, an important program of the festival has discovered and fostered many new talents in the film industry over the passing years. A lot of young Asian film makers have now grown into veterans including mainland directors Ning Hao and Gao Qunshu, and Iranian filmmaker Hassan Yektapanah.

Hong Kong director Derek Yee, chairman of the 5-member jury panel said that his criteria for an outstanding film is its artistry.

"Young talents need a lot more practice even from some inconspicuous positions of the film industry," Yee said.

South Korean producer Jonathan Kim is eager to see more new co-productions of China and South Korea.

"We will have more movies to be produced together and shown in both countries," Kim said. "It is necessary to study each other's culture."

Japanese film maker Koji Fukada expressed his wish of wider collaboration in film industries among varied countries in Asia.

Mainland director Zhang Meng, known for "The Piano in a Factory," said that it is still a difficult time for art-house film directors. It is important to nurture more young generation of audiences.

Mainland actress Jiang Yiyan said that inspiring good films are beyond boundaries of countries. It is a good chance for her to know more about film art as a judge.
