Largest private art museum in China opens

LONG Museum, China's largest private art museum, opened at Luoshan Road in the Pudong New Area yesterday.
The 10,000-square-meter museum showcases the works owned by well-known fine arts collector couple from Shanghai, Liu Yi-qian and Wang Wei - one of the largest collections in terms of financial backing and scope in the nation.
Going on is the exhibition, "Through All Ages," featuring four parallel sectors that present the couple's collection along 1,000 meters of displays.
It includes works of the top 15 Chinese contemporary artists such as Fang Lijun and Zhou Chunya, classic Chinese revolutionary art, and ancient porcelains, jades and imperial collection pieces.
The highlight is "Sketches of Rare Bird," created by Emperor Song Huizong (1082-1135), which Liu bought for 61.7 million yuan (US$9.9 million) in 2009.
Admission is 50 yuan.
